Lake Lautersee

“Z‘margascht” – in the early morning hours, Lautersee is at its most beautiful. The surface of this popular bathing lake near Mittenwald rests perfectly still. The surrounding forests and meadows shimmer in deep shades of green. The lake sits at 1,012 meters above sea level and boasts drinking-water quality. A small hotel and three guesthouses invite visitors to stop by, while trollflowers and gentians bloom on the slopes toward nearby Ferchensee. In summer, goats graze on the Scheibenalm near Lautersee. In winter, the lake is perfect for romantic walks.

Up through the Laintal

Arguably the most scenic route leads from Mittenwald up through the Laintal Valley to Lautersee. The path is short but steep, passing the Mariengrotte and the Lainbach waterfall on the way up. At the top, visitors are greeted by the chapel “Maria Königin”, adorned with traditional Lüftlmalerei.

Lautersee delights many visitors: families and young people enjoy the lakeside bathing area with its diving tower, pier, and slide. Hikers and cyclists often pause here at the foot of Kranzberg to take in the lush greenery or enjoy fresh fish. Strollers can enjoy the circular trail around the lake while admiring the imposing Karwendel mountains across the water. For a more relaxed option, the bus runs to Lautersee and back to Mittenwald during the summer months.
