Lake Geroldsee
“Dawei hom” – taking the time, that’s what you should do at Geroldsee.
The small lake lies quietly and dreamily, with the majestic Karwendel mountains forming a stunning backdrop to the south. On the rolling meadows around the lake, crocuses, gentians, or campions bloom depending on the season, interspersed with a few traditional hay barns. These meadows are highly protected and must not be entered, but marked hiking paths allow visitors to admire them.
The water of this romantic Bavarian moor lake shimmers a mysterious dark hue. It feels silky soft and warms pleasantly in summer. The popular bathing lake, also called Wagenbrüchsee, is located very close to the German Alpine Road, between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald, offering a breathtaking view of the Alpspitze and Zugspitze massif.
The village of Gerold, nestled between the road and the lake, consists of just a few farms. A small wooden sign points the way to the lake.
