Lake Ferchensee
“Zum Idakniagln” – simply breathtaking, many locals find Ferchensee utterly stunning.
This natural spectacle, situated at 1,060 meters near Mittenwald, offers a variety of views. Sometimes the surrounding forests tint its surface a deep green. At other times, the towering Wetterstein cliffs and the Ferchensee walls are perfectly mirrored in the water—depending on which side of the alpine lake you admire. The white sand along its northern shore almost feels exotic.
Ferchensee was shaped by the last Ice Age, just like the nine other lakes around Mittenwald, Krün, and Wallgau. It’s an alpine lake straight out of a picture book—which might explain why Canada’s Prime Minister Trudeau was so impressed during the G7 summit at nearby Schloss Elmau. Legend has it he even took a morning dive into the clear mountain waters.
