The Myth
Experience the beauty and power of nature while following in the footsteps of ghosts, goblins, and dwarfs. According to local tales, people in the region believed a demon resided in the gorge between Leutasch and Mittenwald. It was said that this demon, along with its goblins, guarded the northern gorge exit to otherworldly music. In Mittenwald, the spirit was even reportedly seen flying over the fields, covering the grass with golden dew.
Along the three themed trails of the Geisterklamm—the Klammsteig, Koboldpfad, and Waterfall Trail—visitors can enjoy spectacular natural scenery as well as numerous activity and information points for both children and adults. A small kiosk is located at the Mittenwald gorge entrance, and a small fee applies for the Waterfall Trail.
Current Status:
The gorge has been closed since November 17, 2025. The gorge kiosk and the Waterfall Trail are not accessible.
General Information:
During the summer season, the gorge kiosk including the Waterfall Trail is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. From September onward, the kiosk is closed on Fridays, and the Waterfall Trail is not accessible on Fridays.
To avoid accidents, children should be carefully supervised. Dogs, strollers, bicycles, wheelchairs, and all types of vehicles are not allowed due to grated flooring sections and stairs. Most trails are in sunny areas, but the gorge interior can remain cool even in midsummer, so appropriate clothing is recommended.
In winter months, access to the gorge may be completely closed depending on weather conditions.
