The tour around the Karwendel mountains by mountain bike - better known as the "Karwendelrunde" - is an absolute must for ambitious mountain bikers. With around 2,000 metres of elevation gain and around 70.0 kilometres, this tour is a tough one, but rewards you with unforgettable impressions.
This unique mountain bike tour begins with a ride through the "Riedboden" nature conservation area and on to Scharnitz in Tirol, to the entrance to the Karwendeltal valley. Proceeding along the Karwendelbach river and through wide alpine meadows, the step climb to the Karwendelhaus lodge soon begins. After a refreshment stop at the Karwendelhaus lodge, there are just a few more meters to the Hochalmsattel before the route leads down via numerous switchbacks to the "Kleinen Ahornboden." There you will find opportunity to take a breather. The Johannestal valley then leads to Hinterriss and, after a short flat section, begins the next climb to the "Vordersbachau" and a creek crossing. This is followed by the last steep climb up to the Vereiner Alm alpine hut, where you can take the opportunity to relive your collected experiences. The forest road of the Vereiner Alm alpine hut leads down to Mittenwald, the starting point of the tour.
