This first of two stages through the Karwendel mountain range showcases everything the region has to offer. Steep rock faces, broad alpine meadows, unique nature and trails that will make the hearts of all bikers beat faster. This tour is a must for athletic and experienced mountain bikers...
The Karwendel is doubtless one of the most beautiful ranges of the northern Alps: craggy rock faces, not unlike the Dolomites, rise over green, peaceful valleys. It is this contrast which makes the Karwendel landscape so exciting - the cliffs: massive, steep, powerful and masculine; the valleys: gentle, charming and feminine, with expansive alpine meadows and dark green forests. The Karwendel alpine park, a nature and landscape protection area, has been greatly opened up to bikers. The main route through the Karwendel valley, over the Hochalmsattel, through the Eng and over the Plumsjoch into the Gerntal valley has already been open to bikers for years and is very popular as a classic route. The Transalp Challenge has also rolled over this section toward the south multiple times, as well. This two-day Karwendel loop leads exactly over this route on the first day, from Mittenwald to Achensee lake.
