Tour description

The Isar valley loop hiking trail begins at the hiking parking lot Haus des Gastes in Wallgau (about 5 minutes walk to the bus stop Rathaus Wallgau) and first leads on the Panorama Trail toward Barmsee lake. The Barmsee loop trail will take hikers around the lake a bit before continuing to the nearby Grubsee lake. Passing the sunny hills near Klais, the route follows the section of the "Roman road," which leads on to Kranzbach and Elmau. At the Schloss Elmau palace hotel, follow the hiking trail that leads past the palace to the left and on toward Ferchensee & Lautersee lakes. After the descent to Mittenwald, next follow the hiking trails along the Isar river, passing the Aschauer Alm (not open to the public) to Krün. Again along the Isar river, hikers will follow the forest road toward Auhütte and on to Wallgau. The Isar footbridge and the golf course loop trail will take you to the center of town in Wallgau, the starting point of the Isar valley loop hiking trail.
