Start: Mittenwald ; Innsbruckerstraße ; Zentrum - Destination: Leutaschtal ; Leutascher Straße ; Schanz ; A-6105 ; Leutasch
This very interesting hike will lead you from Mittenwald to the Gletscherschliff alpine tavern and a section of the Leutasch "Ghost Gorge" to the adjacent Leutaschtal valley. The highlight of the tour is a visit to the spectacular Leutasch "Ghost Gorge," with many waterfalls and interactive stations...
The starting point of this tour is directly on Innsbruckerstraße in Mittenwald. Shortly before the Isar bridge, a narrow forest road branches off to the right and leads you first along the Leutascher Ache river to where, after about 15 minutes, you can gaze into the rushing gorge for the first time from the gorge kiosk in Mittenwald. Following the forest road for about another 20 minutes, you will reach the Gletscherschliff alpine tavern, at over 1,020 meters. It's the perfect spot for a short break if you're hungry and thirsty. After this short recuperation, a well maintained hiking trail leads you along the gorge until you reach the start of the Leutaschtal valley after about a 2 hour's walk. The valley in turn is a perfect starting point for other hikes and mountain tours, and is an inviting place to rest. For the return trip, we recommend the "Klammgeistweg" ("Gorge Ghost Trail") which leads you directly through the gorge. In addition, it is also possible to ride back to the starting point with the regular bus connections between Mittenwald and the Leutaschtal valley
