St. John’s Bonfire (Johannifeuer)

Bonfires burn all over the Werdenfelser Land on the eve of St. John the Baptist’s Day. Then on the next day, the name bearers celebrate their day. The Mittenwalders light their fires in various Alpine places in the Karwendel Mountains, like on the Viererspitze, the Linderspitze or the Rauchkopf. When the weather is clear, it is an incomparably beautiful natural evening spectacle.
