Sound experience in the violin making museum (sound comparison)

Category:Lecture/reading/presentation

General infos

This year there will once again be an opportunity not only to marvel at some of the historical exhibits, but also to hear them. The violinist Martin Eidenschink plays the historic Mittenwald violins on certain dates, eliciting the most beautiful tones from them and inviting you to a special kind of sound experience. Eidenschink also has all sorts of interesting things to tell about the influence of Mittenwald violin making over the last centuries. The sound experience is offered in three thematically different variations.

Starts at 4 p.m. and lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Today, Martin Eidenschink presents the timbres of selected Mittenwald violins from three centuries.

In an intimate concert atmosphere you will experience the different timbres of four violins from three centuries. You can also listen to the different sounds of the violins of Johannes Dänzl (1692–1728), Joannes Augustinus Gäßler (1719–1767), Ludwig Neuner (1840–1897) and Josef Kantuscher (1923–2015). The violins presented come from the years 1714, 1749, 1897 and 1943.

In the comparative listening examples from different stylistic eras, you will also learn what influence the different models and their curvature as well as the tension of the corners have on the timbre of an instrument in general and the specific sound facets that the violinist elicits from this color palette unique to the instrument.

The sound experience is an additional, free offer for individual guests. Here you can listen to a violin player and ask questions about the different sound facets of Mittenwald violins. Registration is not required! The regular admission fee applies for access to the museum. If you would like to combine the sound experience with a visit to the museum, please note that the museum closes shortly after the sound experience at 5 p.m. For a relaxed visit to the museum, it is best to plan enough time before the sound experience.
Due to limited space, groups over 6 people unfortunately cannot enjoy the sound experience. Group tours can be arranged with the museum.
