General infos

Even in the year 2026, the Partenkirchen coopers will dance again in Krün. History comes alive when every seven years, the Partenkirchen coopers appear in their colorful uniforms and lift people's spirits with their historic dance. The performance is accompanied and framed by the brass band and the drum corps.

We have to go back to the time of hardship during the Thirty Years' War, which brought the entire population into great distress. The war spread fear and terror, and in 1634 the dreaded plague arrived, bringing death to many people. The Oberammergau Passion Play and our Partenkirchen 'Four O'Clock Bell Ring' are vows from that time, a sign of deep faith. It was also back then that the cooper's dance originated, meant to show that even in the midst of hardship, one may retain hope and joy. For almost 200 years, this tradition has been maintained in Partenkirchen.
