Putting up the Maypole in Mittenwald
Putting up the maypole is a cultural highlight in Alpenwelt Karwendel and is an integral component of the region’s customs calendar. On May 1st of this year, the historic violin making center gets one of its symbols back. The maypole is put up on Dekan-Karl-Platz in the area of the pedestrian zone, where it will again serve as a popular subject for photographs.
Beginning at 8 a.m. Festival procession with brass band music (Blechmusi) from Schöttlkarstraße via Untermarkt and Karwendelstraße to Dekan-Karl-Platz.
After that, the traditional putting up of the maypole with music and appearance by the Goaslschnalzer.
From 12 noon to approx. 5 p.m.
Barbecue with Bavarian treats, coffee, cake and performances by the Mittenwalder Plattlerkinder folk dancers, musical entertainment by the Mittenwald town band until 2 p.m.
