G7 partner program

The period around the G7 summit at Schloss Elmau, a castle in the local area, also offered a number of options for the spouses of those attending the summit. For example, Laureen Harper (first lady of Canada), Akie Abe (the wife of the Japanese prime minister), Malgorzata Tusk (wife of the President of the European Council), Regine Pecorini-Kotsch (wife of Chancellor Merkel’s deputy office manager) and the chancellor’s husband, Joachim Sauer, enjoyed the wonderful natural setting around Schloss Elmau and the idyllic Ferchensee lake on a pleasant carriage ride.

The trip took the group to various points of interest, including the Ferchensee lake, one of the most popular swimming spots in the Alpenwelt Karwendel area. The surrounding landscape is reflected in the clear waters of the mountain lake, with the peaks of the Wetterstein mountains rising above it. The scene invites visitors to take a dip.

If you, too, would like to visit the Ferchensee lake (1.059 m) above Mittenwald, you should definitely use the varied hiking and cycling trails leading to this natural gem. There are many further routes starting from the lake in the hiking area around Kranzberg, with nice places to stop for refreshments along the way.

Our tip: Make use of the benefits offered by your Alpenwelt Karwendel guest card and ride the local guest and hiking buses free of charge to these day trip destinations – Lautersee & Ferchensee.
